The Lavender Tang is an interesting species of Tang sure to provide years of enjoyment with its active personality and fascinating coloration. At first glance the Lavender Tang seems some-what drab in appearance, but experienced marine aquarium hobbyists are aware that the Lavender Tang is capable of demonstrating a range of vibrant coloration. The Lavender Tang, also known as the Spot-Cheeked Surgeonfish, typically sports a handsome tan or tawny brown coloration with an undertone of lavender coloration. The face is ornately decorated with multiple orange spots and the peduncle (base of the tail fin) is marked by two dots. Once established and comfortable in its home aquarium, the Lavender Tang will then demonstrate beautiful pastel coloration in which the dorsal fin exhibits a lovely yellow coloration while the ventral, anal, and caudal (tail) fins sports a vibrant violet/lavender coloration. Depending on its mood (when it is stressed or demonstrating aggression), the coloration of the Lavender Tang can lighten, giving it an overall sandy or yellow appearance.
